How long are the pieces and where do I buy them?
You can’t buy them. The breaks you see every 3’ are expansion/control joints. Every curb job is poured on site using our curbing machines. All designs and colors are different;
please contact Texas Curb N Borders about our products.
How long does the concrete curbing last?
The curbing will last many years with proper care and maintenance. We apply a commercial grade acrylic clear sealer to all colored and stamped curbs after installation. Sealing once a year
will help assure a long and healthy life for your concrete border.
How deep do you dig and what type of base do you use?
We dig between 1-2 inches deep and about 10 inches wide using a bed edger. This is done without damaging your landscape beds or shrubbery. We use the bed edger to cut an even path along your
landscape beds to ensure a level installation. We will sometimes add a small layer of topsoil or sand under the curb to ensure the level of the curb. If the ground should shift or settle
in any way over time, the control joints help control the cracking.
What about the winter and ground movement?
What makes concrete curbing so attractive is the fact that its one continuous piece of concrete. Individual blocks or bricks will shift over time and in the winter. Our curbs are mixed with
a fiber mesh reinforcement, which is designed to take the place of rebar or steel. We also install control joints every 3-4 feet, therefore if the ground moves, the curb will crack at these
joints.
Is the color painted or stained to the curb?
All of the colors are added to the concrete during mixture. There is no painting or staining. Our colors will not flake off or disappear over time. All of our colors are iron oxide pigments
that are mixed into the concrete during the mixing process. A sealer can aid in the lifetime of the color, we recommend sealing the curb once a year.
What makes Texas Curb N Borders stamped concrete curbing different?
What makes our stamped curbing really stand out is the fact that we use a concrete hardener or slurry as it’s called. Instead of directly stamping the curb, we first apply a thin layer
of slurry over the concrete curb. This does two things; it makes the curb surface more durable, and gives the curb a nice smooth texture. Then when the stamping pattern is applied to the
curb with this slurry coating, you get a much more defined stamped pattern. Be sure to check out our Curb Styles page and Gallery to see examples of our stamping.
